DIY display plate

Hey y'all.

Glue Mommy is getting ready to do its first craft show in November.  In preparation, we started looking for frugal ways to display our stuff. What better way than with these displays.

All you need to repeat this is to grab yourself an old plate, a funky glass or dessert cup, some Gorilla glue, and your favorite color spray paint. 

Here's the instructions:
1.  Wash and dry everything.

2.  Turn the plate upside down on a flat surface.  Find the center.

3.  Apply a thin layer in gorilla glue to the underside edge of the cup. Put on the underside of the plate and press firmly for a minute. 

4.  Carefully turnover and set some heavy books on top. Leave it alone for about 2 hours.

5.  Take it outside and spray paint to your hearts content.  (Please follow the cans instructions. )  I used Valspar gloss paint and had great results.

If you didn't notice, Girl Just Make It has changed to Glue Mommy!!!

After much prayer and consideration, I've decided to earn some extra money on the side by opening an ETSY store.  So I came up with a name, "Glue Mommy" and I figured I should start streamlining my name in all the websites so people can find me. 

My store isn't open yet, but loook for me to "open" it's e-doors aroun October 1st.  I'll keep you posted on our progress.

Be blessed wall canvas

I was inspired to try something new and inspired by the beattitudes into a meaningful artistic peace for me. (The beattitudes are in Matthew 5:3-10.  I used the Message)

I think we sometimes got so caught up in what the world asks of us that we lose sight of what God requires of us. 

I am no minister and my walk with God has a lot of rocky dead ends and uturns.  So I wanted to talitor a message to myself just for me from God.  (LOL... Got it!!)  

Okay, now the method.  I used a 12x12 canvas from Hobby Lobby and painted it with 3 different colors of acrylic paint. I used Folk Art's 4011 butter pecan as the dominant color with Apple Barrel's Antique White and Folk Art's Maple Syrup as balancing and accent colors.  I painted this 3 months ago so I honestly can't give u details on technique. (Because I have none... I just go until I think it is pretty, then I stop.) 

I cut everything from black cardstock Cricut's Planting Schoolbook cartridge.  The BE is at 7 inches and all the other letter are cut at 1.5.  The periods are just circles cut at 0.25. I used a mod podge type adhesive to attach everthing to the canvas.  After it dried, went over it again with Paper Plus' Sheer Gold Glaze (a Mighty Dollar find from 2 years ago) so seal edges add some color depth.  finally I added some black gems, from Hobby Lobby, to the I's while the glaze was still wet. 

This project was very simple and I enjoyed making it.  I'm sure you could make your gold glaze with mod podge and Perfect Pearls if u wanted to recreate the same look with your product stash at home.

Distriss Inks

I've been investing more time and money in the altered art of paper crafting and I'm starting to learn subtle differences and my preference pertaining to certain techniques.  For example, here are 2 ways of using distress inks for all over coloring.  The left one is applying the ink to a craft sheet, spray with a mini mister and diping the paper.  The right is applying ink to the paper with an ik blending tool.

I think I like the right one best because I can control exactly where the ink will go.  Which one do you like best?

School is back and so am I!!

Just like a lot of you, I can't be consistent with all the summertime fun going on (plus I needed to find my mojo).  But school is starting next Thursday so I decided to start my consistency pledge with a back to school project!!

My daughter wants to give her teacher an apple and I wanted to offer my crafting services.  What better way to do that than with a gift bag and card.  I left space on the card to add the teachers name once we find out on Sunday.  I'm debating on making a water bottle wrap out of the leftover craps but I don't want to be too over the top LOL!!

The bag is the standard premade from Michael's.  The Patterned Papers are from the Michael's All Seasons stacks. Except for the black graffiti, which is from an DCWV stack, I think.  The cardstock is random, the ribbon is Hobby Lobby and stamp is from Stamping Up. The images on the bag are all from Simply Charmed while the card is from Locker Talk.  I see some Ranger enamel accents on the pencil tip and white gel pen on the card for a little extra something.

Valentines Day Pillow Boxes

Wonderful things come in tiny packages so it's important to make that package adorable. Thats why for Valentines Day I made these adorable pillow boxes!!

The boxes are from the Easter 2010 cartridge and the heart is from the Jubilee cart. And the editing is done withe the Gypsy. Just simply hide contour the bunny in the original boxes then add your heart (make sure to turn at a 90 degree angle). The box is cut at 5.33 height and 5.5 width and the heart is 2.53 in height. To make 20 boxes you need 5 sheets of cardstock and 1 sheet of vellum cut in 2x2.5 in rectangles.

I used a background stamp in a bright pink to add dimension and a simple sentiment in black for some pop.

This project can easily be used for each holiday!! Give it a shot. You will love it!!

Christmas Crazy Day 3

Hey y'all!! Today was Trim the tree day in our home. As you can see I prefer a traditional theme and used red and white. We have a candy came and snowman thing going on here.

Anyway, I wanted to show you my deco mesh garland!! I only used 1 pack of 10 yards and we have a 7 foot tree. I'm not going to provide instructions because there are tons at www.youtube.com. Just search geo mesh wreath and enjoy the madness.

Christmas Crazy Day 2

Just in the nick of time, here is a our next project. It's a super fun card that my daughter and I did together.

We have to remember to do our crafts for our family with our family. We really are creating memories.

Christmas Crazy Day 1

All right!!! Let's start out with some bling!! We made a tinsel tree and used candy for ornaments!!

I watched Martha make this in her show using Giradhelli chocolate squares. That's great but we love the Brach's peppermint nougats with the trees, plus the are peanut free!!

I add a decorative pine come and apple set from an old wreath and voila!! A perfect centerpiece for my kitchen table. I set it in a candle stand that got cracked last year. Its light enough and allows for quick cleanup in the kitch!!

I'm back and Christmas crazy!!

Okay folks! I apologize for the hiatus but sometimes life takes control and you are just barely holding on. Well I'm back in the saddle now and ready to go Christmas Crazy with projects, recipes, tips, etc. It will be a little of everything and complete madness!! (insert devious laugh here)

My mom was sick last year and it really Brought my attention to the importance and reasons for the Christmas holiday back down to earth for me. On Christmas morning my 5 year old and I woke up to a couple present on the coffee table, no tree, 4 inches of snow and grandma attached to an oxygen tank. We were just as happy then because we were all together. So this year, we will go crazy for Christmas the only way I know how: with a pure heart, lots of love, and crafting all the way.

I will be having a special friend of two join me along the way as well. I plan to post something every day so check me out and friend me.

Halloween costume with cricut... Sort of!!

Sorry for the departure y'all!! But I'm back with a quick bit to share with you.

We are going to a family Halloween party and my daughter decided we were going at the Pink Fairy Royal Family. (reason #1 why you should never buy costumes for your kids ahead of time).

Anyway, I am making a couple of things so we look cute together. Here is a picture of our wands. And in the back you can see my skirt. Yes it's a tutu. Its the only thing I make really well. Crowns coming soon!!

SOC Breast Cancer Awareness Blog Hop

Bling it up

So I bought this little wood sign from Mighty Dollar last fall. I wanted to freshen it up a little bit. So I added some Stickles. Who doesn't love glitter?!?

Birthday... The easy way!!

This year there was no extravagant craziness for my daughter's birthday gathering. But I still put my frugal crafty spin on it.

They painted this pumpkin candle holders for $1 each and took them home. I also made pumpkin placemats with my YourStory. To save my table from paint and as another party favor gift.

They had a lovely time and took home decorations for the season!!!!

Thank God for Sundays

Im feeling weak in the knees for adding to my stash so it is a great thing that Hobby Lobby is closed on Sundays. To help me cope my good friend shared a couple of sheets of cute paper with me from her All About Boys DCWV stack. I don't have a boy but the paper with the lightbulbs would be perfect for the science camp layout.

Which leads me to Thrifty Tip #1: share with a friend. Shop the mat stack sales with a friend. Don't buy the same stacks and when u are finished with that theme, switch stacks. Sure some of the paper is missing but it's like having new product in your home and it cost you nothing!!! Awesome huh?$?

On a side note, I made these awesome cupcAkes for a friends get together today. They are as. Yummy as the look

No Spending- Day 1

Hey y'all!!

I Was forced to go into Joann Fabrics with some coworkers today. I only purchased a pack of dcwv paper for my neighbor (we don't have that kind in our town and her daughter is a huge Twilight fan) and an apple door hanger for her teacher. It was $6.99 and 70% off!! I thought it would make a cute Christmas gift for her teacher along with some handmade stationary. (more to come on that later).

The point is: I didn't spend any money on my scrap stash!! Hurray me!!

No more shopping!!

Hello!!! My name is Jessica and I am a scrapbooking supply addict. I have enough materials in my home to have a scrap room and fill it up and for a single mother with increasing responsibilities and $0 in my savings account, I have realized that this must stop!! Why do I have a store in my home when I should only have necessary supplies and an 100 or less stash of varying paper???

So from today on I am hereby on a scrapbook spending freeze until January 1st, 2012. (with the exception of photos purchased with coupon or adhesive when I have run out (which is unlikely to happen). This includes no Black Friday, after Christmas sales, or Cricut cartridges.

During this time. I will try to post a weekly "frugal- stash using- $$ saving" idea or project. I hope whoever reads this will find this grand experiment /torture interesting and enlightening.

Let the saving begin!!!

Digital Layout

Hey y'all,

I don't know about you but it has definitely been a Manic Monday!!!  But instead of complaining I decided to share the only thing that went right today... a layout!!!

Isn't that awesome, and it only took about 15 minutes using my Creative Memories Storybook Software!!

By the way,  the cake mix brownies were pretty good.  I'll definitely use my 8x10 pan instead of my 9x13 next time.  Although they were moist, I like my brownie a little on the THICKER side... kinda like me!!  :-)
